VTA (Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority) operates a network of light rail lines in the Silicon Valley/San Jose area. One line runs from Mountain View through the northern parts of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, then through downtown San Jose out to Winchester. The second line starts in east San Jose at Alum Rock, runs north to Milpitas and then turns south again, joining the first line through downtown San Jose and then continues south to Santa Teresa. There is also a small branch line to Almaden.
